Privacy policy
Last updated: 22 August 2026
Vatlog ("the app") is an iOS / iPadOS application published by freetokyo ("the developer"). This policy explains how the app handles your information.
1. What the developer collects
Nothing. The app has no server of its own and sends nothing to the developer. There is no account to create. No analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDK is embedded.
2. What is stored on your device
The app stores what you enter, on your device only:
- Batch records (name, type, status, brew date, packaging date, final volume, gravity, notes)
- Fermentation log entries (date, gravity, temperature, notes)
- Ingredients and any yeast strains you register
- Tasting notes
- Photos you attach (copied into the app's own storage area)
- Your annual target, together with a record of where that figure came from, including the citation text
- Settings (region, state, units, paper size, formula choices, language)
This data is held under the iOS Data Protection system. The app does not implement encryption or a passcode of its own, so anyone who knows your device passcode can read your records.
3. Backups
The data above is included in your device backup (iCloud backup or an encrypted local backup). That is standard iOS behaviour, and Apple's privacy policy governs it. The developer has no access to those backups.
For this reason the app does not claim that your data never leaves your device. It claims only what can be verified: no account, no servers, no sync.
4. Permissions
The app shows no permission prompt at any point after launch.
- Location — not used. You choose your region in Settings
- Photo library — no access is requested. You pick each image in the system picker, and only that image is handed to the app
- Notifications — none are sent and no permission is requested
- Camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, health — not used
5. Files you export
The app can export JSON, CSV, PDF and ZIP files. Wherever you send them through the share sheet — another app, iCloud Drive, email — they are outside the app's control from that moment on, and the terms and policies of whatever receives them apply.
An exported file is a separate copy. Deleting a batch in the app does not change files you have already exported.
6. In-app purchase
Vatlog Pro is a one-time in-app purchase handled by Apple. The developer never receives your name, address or payment details. Whether you own it is checked on the device through Apple's StoreKit framework.
The purchase is tied to your Apple Account and cannot be removed by the app. Using "Delete all data" does not revoke it, and it can be restored at any time.
7. Deletion
"Delete all data" in Settings erases everything listed in section 2 — including the photo files and thumbnails on disk — along with your settings. Deleting a single batch also removes its log entries, ingredients, tasting note and photo files.
Uninstalling the app causes iOS to delete its data.
8. Children
The app is intended for recording home fermentation and is rated 18+. Since the developer collects no personal information, it collects none from children either.
9. Sharing with third parties
The developer collects no data, so there is none to share. No third-party analytics or advertising services are used.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, this page and its last-updated date will be revised.

Controller, contact and your rights
This app is provided by freetokyo, an independent developer, who acts as the data controller. For any question about this policy or about personal data, contact freetokyo2020@yahoo.co.jp. We normally reply within five business days.
If you are in the EU, the EEA or the UK, the GDPR gives you the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and port your personal data, to withdraw consent and to object to processing. You may also lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.
If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know, delete and correct the personal information collected about you, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information.
Where this app stores data only on your device, we have no access to it, so most of these rights are exercised directly on the device: delete or export inside the app, or delete the app. We will still answer any request you send us.
Retention: on-device data is kept until you delete it or remove the app. Support emails are deleted 24 months after the request is closed.
