Frequently asked

There is no progress bar on my annual total

No target, no bar. Until you set an annual target the app shows the running number and a "Set a target" button instead. Choosing the target is yours to do; the app will not fill one in for you.

If your region is set to Japan, the meter is not shown at all — a note citing the Liquor Tax Act takes its place.

Some regions offer no reference figure

For the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, no quantity limit could be confirmed from a primary source. Rather than invent a number, the app shows that it has none and invites you to set your own target.

I was told a reference figure changed

If you adopted a figure the app offered, and that figure changes in a later version, you are told once. Your target is never rewritten for you. Review it and re-adopt if you want to.

Figures you typed in yourself never trigger this notice.

I cannot mark a batch as finished

Packaging is done from its own screen. Tap "Package this batch" and you are asked for the packaging date and the final volume. It will not go through without both — without a volume the batch cannot count toward your year.

It says two batches on the free tier

The free tier allows two batches in progress, meaning planned, fermenting or conditioning. Packaged and archived batches are not counted, so your annual total keeps building on the free tier.

I changed a formula but old figures did not change

That is deliberate. The formula version is pinned to each batch, so changing a setting never rewrites records retroactively. To redo one batch with the current formulas, use "Recalculate with current formulas" in that batch's menu.

I cannot add another photo

Three photos per batch on the free tier, twenty with Vatlog Pro. At the limit the app tells you why and how to raise it.

Note that the app never asks for photo library access — you pick each image in the system picker and only that image reaches the app.

My JSON export has no photos in it

JSON holds data only; photos are not included. Use the ZIP export to take your photos with you. That is the one to use when changing devices.

Will importing JSON wipe what I already have?

No. Import keeps everything already on the device and adds only what is missing. Batches that already exist are skipped rather than duplicated.

I bought Vatlog Pro but the features are still locked

Try "Restore purchases" in Settings. It works on any device signed in to the same Apple Account.

If the price will not load, check your connection and press "Try again" on the purchase screen.

Does "Delete all data" also delete my purchase?

No. The purchase is tied to your Apple Account and the app cannot remove it. "Restore purchases" brings it back at any time.

I want units that do not match my region

Volume, temperature, gravity and mass are four separate settings. Choosing a region suggests a starting point; you can change each one afterwards.

My numbers will not go in

Enter decimals in your language's convention — a comma in German, a full stop in English and Japanese. The app accepts either, but do get in touch if something will not take.

Can I sync between devices?

No. There is no server and no sync. To move data, export JSON or ZIP on one device and import it on the other.

Requirements

iOS 17.0 or later / iPadOS 17.0 or later. English, German and Japanese.
