Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of Kedgelog (“the app”). By using the app you agree to them.

What the app is

The app is a record-keeping tool. It does not determine what your boat is required to carry.

Every expiry date the app handles is a value you read off the item and entered yourself. The app compares that date with today and displays or notifies accordingly. It makes no judgement about legal requirements. Nothing shown in the app means that a particular boat, in a particular area of operation, at a particular time, meets any rule.

The app is not affiliated with any inspection body or government agency and is not certified, inspected or endorsed by any authority.

Reference checklists

The reference checklists included in the app are compiled by extracting only item names and quantities as facts from the sources named. The source tables themselves are not reproduced. Each list carries its source name, source URL and the date the source was checked.

They are suggestions only; you decide what to adopt, edit or delete. Regulations change and sources are revised. No warranty is given that a list is current. Always confirm what you must carry with the responsible authority or inspection body.

Attribution for UK-derived material under the Open Government Licence v3.0, and rights notices for other sources, appear in the app’s “Sources & attributions” screen and in exported PDFs.

Exported records

PDF, CSV, GPX and JSON files produced by the app are records entered by the user. They are not certificates and are not certified, inspected or endorsed by any authority. They are not designed as a submission format for any third party.

Passage distance and average speed are calculated by the app from recorded positions. The method is stated on the export; the figures are not measured values.

Track recording

Tracks are recorded only between starting and ending a passage, and continue while the screen is off (iOS shows its location indicator throughout). Ending the passage stops background updates. Nothing is recorded when no passage is running, or if the system terminates the app. Gaps are disclosed on screen and in exports, but continuous recording is not guaranteed.

Pricing and purchases

The app is free to use; additional features are unlocked by a single non-consumable in-app purchase. There is no subscription. Prices are as displayed in the App Store.

Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple. For a refund, please contact Apple Support. If a refund revokes the purchase, boats beyond the first become read-only; no records are deleted and expiry reminders continue.

If a purchase does not appear after changing devices, use “Restore purchases” in Settings or on the purchase screen. You must be signed in with the same Apple Account used for the purchase.

Looking after your data

The app’s data lives only on your device. Keeping it safe is your responsibility. Losing, breaking or erasing the device, or deleting the app, loses the data. JSON export and import are provided free of charge for migration and safekeeping.

Photos are not included in the JSON backup; export them separately with “All photos”.

Restrictions

You may not reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, or use it for any unlawful purpose.

Changes to these terms

Any change will be published on this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the revised terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan.
