Frequently asked questions
What am I asked for when I add a tree?
Species, training stage and a name. Species can be searched by Latin name or by the common name in your language. The stage is one of development, structural, refinement or maintenance, and can be changed later. A photo is optional.
I am not sure which training stage to choose.
Choose maintenance if you are unsure — those trees get the basic seasonal work only. Development is for a tree still being thickened, structural for one whose branch framework is being built, refinement for one whose foliage and tips are being tightened. Each stage is described on the picker inside the app.
If I change the stage, do my old records change?
No. Every care record keeps the stage it was made in. Moving a tree forward never rewrites its history, and the year-on-year comparison uses the stage that applied at the time.
Nothing appears under “this week”.
That means no job is in its window this week for the species and stage of your trees. Some parts of the year, dormancy in particular, are quiet for weeks. The year view shows what is coming next. The list is also empty if you have not added a tree yet.
Do I have to record observations?
No. Trees without observations run on the standard timing derived from your region settings. Adding observations moves the schedule to match what your tree is actually doing.
I live in the southern hemisphere.
Set the hemisphere in the region settings; onboarding asks for it first. Seasons are held internally as phases rather than months, so switching the hemisphere flips the whole calendar.
I would rather not grant location access.
You do not have to. Set the hemisphere and climate zone by hand and every calendar works. Location is requested only when you choose “use my current location” and when you turn on climate adjustment with Premium.
What does climate adjustment actually do?
It fetches the weather for that point from Apple's WeatherKit, converts the temperature difference against the same period last year into a number of days, and shifts the schedule by that much. Frost warnings are built by the app from forecast minimum temperatures and are not a republication of any meteorological service's alert. With climate adjustment off, no such request is made.
Notifications do not arrive.
Check that notifications are allowed under Settings → Notifications → Nenrin on the device. Then, in the app's settings, choose which kinds of work should notify you (up to three on the free tier). Notifications are composed on the device and do not pass through any external notification server.
How do I delete a photo, or a whole record?
Photos can be deleted one at a time from the timeline. Deleting a care record also deletes the photos attached to it — the number of photos that will go with it is shown before you confirm. Deleting a tree has two levels: archiving keeps every record, full deletion does not.
What is the difference between the three exports?
The ledger (CSV / JSON) is a table of records; it holds no photos and cannot be read back. The backup (JSON) holds all data without photos and can be restored. The full archive (ZIP, Premium) holds the photos too and restores them with the records. Ledger and backup exports are free.
What happens to my current data when I restore?
You choose whether to replace what is there or merge into it. When merging, records already present are not duplicated. If you restore from a backup that contains no photos, the number of photos that could not be restored is shown rather than left to look like a silent loss.
If I cancel Premium, do trees beyond the third disappear?
No. They remain readable, exportable and deletable. Only new entries stop — adding trees, and adding records to trees beyond the free limit. iCloud sync stops, and nothing on the device is deleted.
How do I restore a purchase, or cancel?
Restore is available both on the purchase screen and in the app's settings. Cancel from Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions on the device; the app itself cannot cancel a subscription, as that is handled by Apple.
My species is not in the guide.
The guide ships with 30 species, and trees can only be added from it for now. Write to the address above with the species you keep and it will be considered for a future update.
Can I change the language of the app?
Yes — 34 languages are available in the app's settings, or it can follow the device. Because species are keyed to their Latin names, changing language never changes which tree an entry refers to.
Reporting a problem
Please include three things: your device model and iOS version, the app version (shown at the bottom of the settings screen), and what you did, on which screen, when it happened. The app sends no usage data, so there is no way to look the situation up from this end.
